Bettye should be held in much higher regard than she is. Such vocal control, great songs, it’s truly unfair that she doesn’t stand next to the other great female r&b artists of her time.
If he isn’t he (along with the aforementioned Vernon Garrett) should be a staple in every BBQ restaurant’s jukebox. His earlier recordings on the Kent label are not to be missed.
